Road & Rail Bridge

Well, here we are up in The Sounds, its been a very long day, 8 hours travelling and feeling very jaded.

This is a spot where we changed drivers, so a quick couple of pictures of this now disused bridge - vehicles on the bottom and train on the top. over the Awatere River.

Built in 1902, it was used up until 2 years ago when a smart bridge was built, you can just see it to the right. I remember as a child I was always terrified to cross it in case a train came along on top, it never happed though. Obviously a sturdy construction (fortunately) It is now a "Historic Bridge"

It rained on and off all day, which made for difficult driving, so won't be long before our heads are on the pillow.
