From the Mountains of faith....

Inspired by Emma osborne

Several years ago, 11 to be precise, Boy was 7. We had just newly moved here, and he was still attending the local village school where we had come from. On a Tuesday evening he stayed with a friend for tea, and then went on to Football training, and I collected him from there.

On this particular evening, his friends mum cornered me in a particularly noisy part of the Football club, and was whispering to me in a furtive fashion. I was listening, but I wasn't. I was nodding and agreeing, but I didn't really get what she was telling me.

I did hear, Tooth Fairy, don't believe..... and turned and said, "oh they do believe, mine believe, or it doesn't happen". I was firm about that, because I knew her wee boy had suffered a traumatic Christmas the year before.

We grinned and waved bye, collected our respective children and headed home. Boy was full of stories of his school day, his tea at his friends house and the football, nothing out of the ordinary.

The next morning, I went in to wake him up. He sat up in bed, and looked under his pillow. I looked at him confused, and raised my eyebrows in question.

He turns to me with big blue eye, a wee bit teary.

"Last night at Paul's house, my tooth came out while I was eating my tea, and I told Paul I'd get money from the tooth fairy, but he said there is no tooth fairy, and I should not tell you and then I would be able to work out if it was real or not, and there's no money...." and his wee voice faded away.

My head was spinning, snippets of the conversation came back to me, THAT was what she had been trying to tell me. Think quick, think quick. I grinned widely at Boy! "That explains it", I said.

"What?" Says Boy.

"Well last night, when I got up to go to the loo in the middle of the night, there was a Pound coin sitting on the toilet seat, i figured it must have fallen out of Dad's pocket so I just took it through to the bedroom, but if you lost a tooth, it must have travelled straight through, and the Tooth fairy left the money, exactly where she found the tooth!"

Big Smiles.

Panic run to bedroom to make sure I had a pound coin! - Yes

Smiles all round and the Faith remains!!
