This morning I had a small shoot to finish along the River Yarrow. The shots are for an 'interpretation board' marking the industrial past of this Northern river. What the board won't tell walkers is how nature has taken back this abused watercourse. I remember in my childhood days seeing yellow and purple swans swimming on this stretch. Feathers permanently stained by the foul outpourings of the dye and bleach works that plyed their trade on the banks here.
This birck lined drain once fed pollutants directly into the river but now see the greenery! Ferns deck the walls even in winter and show what can be done if nature is given the opportunity. Triumph over adversity. Let the year begin.
