Ciao
Galliano liqueur was created in 1896 in Livorno, Italy by Arturo Vaccari.
A sweet, herbal drink it was made of local ingredients anise, lavender and mint which were then mixed with herbs from further afield such as coriander and cinnamon as well as juniper, musk yarrow and ginger. The most significant though is vanilla which is balanced by the fresh aniseed flavours.
It can be enjoyed on its' own but it is said to enhance the flavours of just about anything it is mixed with and is a key ingredient in a Harvey Wallbanger.
This particular bottle of unopened Galliano liqueur dates from around the 1970's or it might even be a little earlier. I'm not sure as I didn't purchase it.
At 61° proof it has been waiting a long time for some vodka and orange and a little ice to go under it! Tempting though it is, I shall let it remain intact a little longer.
