Portrait of Flick
We went off to discover a bird-life reserve that has been located within two miles of our house. It's been there for decades, but we've never actually been until today.
It was rather incredible - and full of wildfowl of all descriptions.
I managed to stalk this rather rare version of a Chickadee, namely a Flickadee, and found it furtling around in the undergrowth. Its rather distinctive call of "click, click,click..." makes it easy to locate - but it's a shy creature and quickly shoots off upon discovery. I only just managed to get this fleeting glimpse, but intend to do better next time.
I am now the proud owner of a book on British birds, and will be able to take pictures of swans in the future, happy in the knowledge that they are Mute Swans, and are semi-domesticated. This is a huge improvement on my previous knowledge as I always thought they were big white ducks with attitude.
