It pays to look down!!
Walking to the mail drop, camera in hand, looking for a blip - red hibiscus beckoning, a couple of Mallards paddling, a wonderful streaky gray winter sky overhead - and then I chanced to look DOWN. What's this I spy? A White Peacock Anartia jatrophae airing its beautiful wings on a weedy patch of Creeping charlie (or ground ivy, or gill-over-the-ground). Wasn't s/he nice to pose? According to my Audubon guide, this species is found only in Florida and parts of south Texas. My camera lacks a pro-level macro function, but I'm pleased with this blip, nonetheless.
