"Tax-a-micket!"
This is my second night shot in 2 days... But oh well.
We did A LOT today. (be prepared to be reading for at least the next 10 minutes)
We got up at 7.30 (on a Saturday!) and then met up with the two uni friends at about 9.30, after much confusion about whether they were in Central Station or T-Centralen. Then we wandered down by the water along to Gamla Stan, where we walked about the palace and looked at the guards marching about.
We were determined to spend as little money as possible, so we were constantly on the look out for free museums.
We ended up in a Coin/Money Museum that was free for under 18s. It was quite interesting... we saw the biggest coin in the world, which was quite cool.
Then we went into another museum which was really cool. We saw loads of outfits that the royal family wore and stuff. We even saw the outfit that Carl Gustav III was assassinated in! He was killed at midnight at a masked ball which is like something out of a film... You could even see the blood stains.
Then we went to have fika, and wandered round Gamla Stan looking at the pretty buildings/searching for a cheap coffee shop. We eventually found one and had coffee and a kanelbullar (a cinnamon bun. YUM.).
Then we went to the Parliament for 1.30 where you could go on a free tour. So we turned up and went through a tonne of security things, and then got taken on a tour by a nice lady and a security guard called Daniel. We got to see the old offices and the big debate hall thing (as you can see I know all political lingo).
Then after that was finished we walked round the waters edge on Gamla Stan trying to find the boat we could get across to Djurgården witj our SL travel cards. But we couldn't find it so we continued on to Slussen and went into the Stockholm Stadmuseum (for free) which was nice. Then we asked at reception about this boat and we got directions to it.
So we got on the boat which was fun, and kind of scary because it just sailed right over giant chunks of ice that were floating all over the water. I was having visions of Titanic...
Then we got off at Djurgården and walked along to The Vasa Museum half an hour before it closed. We got in there for free too, so we looked around there which was fun.
Then when we were done there we hoped on a tram back to Sergels Torg and got the Tbana to IKEA at Kungens Kurva (THE BIGGEST IKEA IN THE WORLD) where we ate a dinner or meatballs, potatoes and lingonberry sauce - the ultimate Swedish meal.
Then we walked about IKEA for a bit, and went to the food shop where we bought chocolate for 5:-.
Then we went to a Swedish supermarket and everyone stocked up on Marabou Chocolate and other Swedish goodies, then we got the Tbana back to town.
We got off at Slussen and went up the tower thing at Slussen. We went the long way up the steps, because the lift was closed, and if it had been open we'd have been too cheap to pay the 10:- to use it.
When we got to the top this was the view, but it was very windy and cold so we didn't hang around for too long. We just got the photos and went.
Then we all got back on the Tbana and the two uni girls went back to their hostel whist we headed back home. We got back at about 10.15 and were in bed by 11.
It was a long but fun day.
(sorry about the essay)
Oh yeah, the title is because it was hilarious listening to my friends attempt to speak Swedish. I tried to teach them how to say "Tack så mycket" (thanks very much) and also on the Tbana, they would try and repeat the names of the stations when they were announced. "Nesta, Abrlamclerya!"
