Birthday Hat

Our worship leader enjoyed a taste of his own medicine today - it was his turn to wear the "birthday hat" and be sung to this morning.

This tradition has been long-standing in our church. I don't know whose idea it was (although I do know whose idea the birthday hat was) but it's the kind of tradition that everyone loves and everyone hates. You love it when you get to see your friends and family stand awkwardly in front of the whole church, quickly reddening as phones and cameras are pointed in their direction. You're not so keen on it when your own birthday comes around.

It's nice though, because we get to celebrate everyone's birthdays together - and after all, if you love it for 51 weeks and hate it for one week every year, it's worth it.
