Cortona - Day 4
Breakfast at home. This is our last day before we're off to Venice tomorrow.
Drove into Cortona to pick up a gorgeous orange leather purse and a green overnight bag.
Then we drove into Montepulciano and walked around. We had a lovely lunch at a little place - Jer & I shared a carafe of white wine (can't remember what varietal it was, but it was their house white that was just poured out of a big oak barrel). Jer had a salumi plate and I had the pici with cacio e pepe. It is a noodle that originated from this area - and I loved it. I love pasta and big chewy noodles are my favorite - I just have to try to recreate this noodle at home....
Another thing that I learned was there are several different types of pecorino - too bad we didn't get the chance to try them all.
After lunch we walked around some more and I bought a gorgeous navy cross body purse. Since Jer & I only packed very light (only a carry-on sized bag each), we really limited our shopping during this trip, except for the 3 bags we just bought.....
Since we only had a bit of time left in Cortona, we decided to head back home to relax and enjoy the sun/pool as much as we could.
For dinner we went back into Cortona and ate at Pane e Vino. We had bruschetta with white beans and herring (one of my favorite combos) and mackerel and capers (another fave combo). Jer had the chianini stew (and the Chianina are only found in Italy), and of course I had the pici with bread crumbs and anchovies.
Fantastic day and I will miss being here in such a beautiful part of the world.
