Venice - Day 2
We had a simple breakfast at our hotel before heading out for a long day...
We went to Murano (saw someone make a glass sculpture, and toured a gorgeous and pricey glass galery/store), Burano (famous for their colorful houses, and lace), and Torcello (saw Attila the Hun's throne, from about 450 A.D., and the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, from 639 A.D.). Hard to believe that there is so much history on this tiny little island.
We were exhausted by this point, and the 2 hour vaporetto ride didn't help. But I do remember getting in trouble for taking this picture, because no pictures were allowed at a lot of these shops....oops.
H&M went back for a nap before dinner, and Jer and I did some discovering in the local cafes. We kept seeing people drinking these gorgeous orange drinks served in wine glasses with an orange slice and an olive...and we had to find out what these lovely drinks were. This is when we came across the spritz. It is the National Drink of Venice and now one of our favorite drinks! We sat and watched the world go by under the bright yellow awning, and felt warm and cozy even though it was pouring. We managed to polish off 3 of these beauties before we met up with H&M again.
For our last meal with H&M in Italy, we went to Al Columbo and introduced them the our new find. We also had a wild mushroom soup (which we later found out was 30 EUROS!!!), squid with ink in pasta, pinot grigio and a licorous liqueur that I've never had. After all that alcohol, I can't seem to remember what else we had to eat for dinner.....
