Old Louis' Sculptures

Old Louis makes sculptures in the style of Max Ernst. He has never attended an Ecole des Beaux Arts and has certainly never heard of the Surrealists.
He assembles his objets trouves with rough, blue twine. His gallery is vast - the sculptures here are hanging on the wall of Dieter's windmill; sometimes we find them in our garden, or along the road-side, or on the edge of fields.
He appropriates things that have lain around for a while, unused or unplayed with - a pair of muddy boots left on a door step, one of the childrens' scooters, left leaning against the wall of the house. He incorporates these objects into free-standing compositions, or suspends them on ancient nails on stone walls.
The children, unmoved by the 'art brut' in their midst, beg me to ask Louis to give back their pocessions. I wouldn't dare. Instead, I wait until he is sleeping, boarded up in his hen-house at night-fall, like the birds. I then gently disentangle the disputed object, careful not to dimantle the rest of the installation, and return the goods to their owners.
Louis knows that objets trouves can always be found, and the children have learnt not to leave things lying around.
