The Dragonfly

I went to Rachel House tonight. It's one of the CHAS centres. I usually go once a month to listen or give a complimentary therapy. But, I hadn't been since July - for one reason or another.

It's a magical place. That probably sounds like a strange thing to say about a children's hospice, but it's true. The support the parents and the kids receive from the care team is just incredible - some people were made to do certain jobs.

For the most part the vibe is upbeat and all about treasuring precious moments or sharing emotional burdens. But of course, it can be a very sad place too.

And that's when the dragonfly sticker goes up on the door to let new arrivals and volunteers know that there's been a loss before entering.

CHAS explain to young siblings that their brother or sister is similar to the life of a dragonfly - beautiful, and here for a very short time before they fly off to heaven.

I wanted to pay a dragonfly tribute to families of terminally ill children and to the work that CHAS does.
