You look after my back and I'll look after yours
The dogs had all the angles covered. Murphy looking left and Behr looking right. Nobody was going to sneak up on them and catch them unawares. They were also on top of a small hill so 360 degree coverage from their radar-scanning eyes, ears and senses. Joint kings of their very own castle.
They were easily distracted though. The sound of dog biscuits rattling in my pocket drew them away from their defensive positions - food wins over fight any day.
It also allowed some Canadian visitors onto the hill to enjoy the view. They were not sure how to approach with 2 Bernese apparently guarding the viewpoint. And of course there was more posing by the dogs for visitors' cameras. These boys sure do know how to cause a stir when they set their minds to it.
