Another symbol

Yesterday we were given another significant part of our kit: the name shields for our helmets. These aren't the ones we get to use when we go into service. They are to help our instructors figure out who we are when our identities are obscured behind turnouts and masks.

As we rapidly progress through the medical component of our firefighter skills training, its value and importance is becoming more and more ingrained. I knew that medical skills were a significant tool in the firefighter's toolbox, but I'm now appreciating the role those skills will play in helping me help people when they need it most.

So, what's the weekend like for a (very) fresh firefighter recruit? Homework.
