Sun and War Horse
The legend in Southwest Arizona is that the great North American spirit god War Horse is charged with carrying the Sun god across the sky. To make the people who live below happy. Though their true quest is to try and capture the Coyote, the spirit dog of the desert. For Coyote has stolen the Moon, whom the Sun god loved, with a love that would never die. They chase Coyote across the heavens, day and night. But Coyote is very clever, he hides Moon well sometimes, and Sun can not find them. Other times, he does not hide Moon so well, Sun can see her just peeking out from behind a rock or a tree where Coyote has tried to hide her. And the pursuit is on again. When Coyote has hidden Moon well, Sun can not see Moon at all, and his heart is broken and his tears fall like rain from the sky. And when Sun feels that all is lost, Coyote will taunt him, and show Moon in all her naked beauty. Sun is filled with rage for Coyote and longing for his one true love, Moon. Sun and War Horse gallop on across the blue canopy, never tiring of the great hunt across the desert sky.
If the people below knew this story, they would feel sad for Sun and Moon. But Sun and Moon love the people as well, and like to see the people laugh and be happy, so Sun and Moon keep their secret to themselves.
Shhhhhh! Don't tell the people, OK?
Thank and as always-
