Thistle Down

By Ethel

Heads

Down beside the grocery-store,
There stood a sign...much taller.
It read in brightly colored words,
"Four Heads for a Dollar".

My Goodness Gracious! ...Gracious Me!!
To this I must attend.
I'll change my old head for a new,
My thinking now will mend.

I'll get a head where knowledge clings,
Where joys forever seep.
And the seeded bits of treasured love,
Will be for me to keep.

I'll get a head that looks the world,
Straight within the eye.
And one that has the will to say,
I can...if I but try.

Four heads...will give me rich supply,
No scarcity will fret us.
My Goodness Gracious! ...Gracious Me!!
Those heads...were only LETTUCE.
