Spelling Bea

We had our spelling bee yesterday for our school. Mr. Photonovice came to cheer on KMS, and help out with logistics, etc. He was great as a speller wrangler. He kept them in line, quiet and moving toward the microphone during the roughly 30 minute bee (very short! Golly!).
Just before the bee started, I went to shut the front library door, and glanced to make sure that Mr. P had put up the sign he promised to make so that latecomers wouldn't get mixed into the speller line. I almost died when I saw it, thinking that Mr. P had actually made the mistake and corrected it instead of getting a new piece of paper to start over. Having no time to 'fix' it, I said a silent prayer that no one else would show up and think that we teacher couldn't even spell the word 'bee'.
As we were cleaning up, I asked to Mr. P to please spell the word 'bee', he laughed and said it was a joke. Even after 20 years of togetherness, I still can't tell when he's joking or not! Yikes.
I saved the sign in my spelling bee folder. Maybe, I'll use it next year. :)
Ultimately, KMS won the bee and will be representing our school in the state bee in Anchorage on the 29th. She didn't think it was funny to award the winner with more work, but she's also very excited. KMS is an awesome speller, even if she doesn't think she is.
