Carder with condenser

I don't really know what this is, some printing equipment.

This was a slide for the magic lantern recently discovered in the church basement. (Magic Lantern)

What were these slides used for? To teach people about printing equipment available? Or was it just because of the beauty of the object? This machine certainly looks reasonably symmetrical to me and a beautiful object.

There are other slides still left and I'll try and blip them in different ways. I quite like it how on this one its shadow seems to be flying behind it.
