Poundbury #1: Weird statue thing
Prince Charles's pet new urban village project is at Poundbury on the outskirts of Dorchester. When finished it will house 5,000 people and will have factories, shops, offices and a range of different types of housing.
With its pseudo-historical architecture and quirky features people either love it or hate it. Most locals wouldn't live there through choice - most of the residents seem to have moved there from out of county - but I quite like it. The houses I've been in are light, spacious and comfortable and have bigger gardens than many new houses. Architecturally there's a lot of variety, usually harking back to an earlier era with modern overtones.
I'll try to blip some of the wonderful and weird things, such as this classical-style sculpture, whch is pretty strange, even in daylight. I'm afraid the street lighting make it look like it's in a dirty fishtank (but it looked worse with flash). Maybe it wouldn't look out of place in the grounds of a grand stately home, but here....?
