Bonfire

Up in the fields they have been cutting back the brambles from the fences, and renewing fence posts. Usually an autumn job but a bit behind with a wet autumn last year. Here's how it goes ~

grey ash lies in a Mount Fuji pile,
yesterday's pyre,
pale, innocuous.
today's cuttings soon ignite
hidden heat
greedy greedy
flames speak with forked tongues
feed me feed me
grasping the wind
they shout 'take our fiery hands'
reaching for me
reaching for the sky-
redemption is a blaze away.
dwindling twigs
flames die back,
transformation will have to wait
for another day
