....Green is the colour....
of envy. But this could just as easily have been "Red is the colour of rage"
This is Charlie one of my fishing compadres. You might have seen him before, sheltering under a brolly on one of our coaching nights after we had planned to cancel the session, because it had been raining heavily all day. Charlie assured us he'd seen a forcast that said the rain had moved on, so against our better judgement we started the session and of course the heavens opened.
We went fishing today at one of our ponds called Red Bridge. The last 4 or 5 times we've been Charlie and Sam have waited until a meeting time was arranged and then turned up early to pinch the best spots. I've ranted about it on here several times! Yesterday Shaun and I agreed I'd pick him up at 7.30, but we told C and S it would be at 8.00!
We got there at 7.25, because I picked Shaun up at 7.15! We got choice of pegs. On Red Bridge the prime peg is number 1 because the big fish are there, but it's very difficult to fish because of a wall jutting out into the water, the most comfortable peg is number 3, and then number 4. Charlie turns up early, nabs No. 1 and rarely catches anything decent. A less charitable person would say it's wasted on him, but he thinks it's funny to stop anyone else fishing it. Today Roy had No.1, Shaun had No.4 and I had No. 3.
When Sam and Charlie arrived at 7.45 (earlier than agreed), they stuck their heads over the wall and got the shock of their lives.
Very few words were said, except I think mine and Shaun's parentage was called into question, and they went and sat on the other bank! They sulked for all 6 hours we were there! They wouldn't join in any banter, and any enquireis as to how they were doing received a short two word answer! I don't suppose the situation was helped by us three catching lots and Sam only catching 3 and Charlie 0! Nor by Roy announcing each fish he caught by shouting, "Oi, Charlie look at this!" And definitely not by Roy catching one of the big Tench that inhabit Peg 1!
They behaved like a pair of big kids, which considering they have a combined age of more than 120 is ,frankly, pathetic, but funny.
What's the betting that the next time we go they turn up about 7.00?
This shot might look like Charlie is smiling but let me tell you it was more of a snarl.
