Fresh from Southbridge
It's a little hard to understand what this means. Basically, you can drink this water without boiling it, which is bliss! I have to say, the teams of people who are helping restore the infrastructure in our city, truly amazing. Every time I see some guy in the street working on power, water, roads or sewerage I want to go and hug him, Actually, I don't really, well I kind of do, but they probably wouldn't take it too kindly ... Hugs aside, amazing people!
And their job is hard. The city's infrastructure is very badly damaged. We've had water at the office for the past 3 days. Today it stopped. We got water today at home. Tonight it's broken again. And even when it's all working, we're going to have to boil our water for months probably, sewerage is getting mixed up with our water supply, as those pipes are also toast.
So, people like this, from Southbridge are making our life SO much easier. Basically as I understand, the bloke doing this runs McMillian Drilling, and he's using his bores to pump water (daily) and truck it up, at his expense. He's doing around 7000 litres per day. What a freakin star. The kids are baking him cupcakes tomorrow.
Aside from that, we had 6 people at work today, it went pretty well aside from a few little shudders, Ok, one slightly larger shudder.
Lots to do looking ahead, better get on with it.
BTW, a number of ways to help/donate if you like:
* There's the NZ Red Cross, good
* There's the official PM's cause, quite good
* Or the Rangiora Earthquake Express. Bl**dy fantastic, these guys are making a HUGE difference!
