This site is capturing moments from my 40-day cycle trip from Paris to Jerusalem. I am following a medieval pilgrimage route, imagined by an English monk from around 1250 called Matthew Paris. Matthew scribbled this next to my destination on his map:

"Ierusalem, civitatum dignissima omnium, tum quia in ipsa morti addictus set Dominus, tum quia in medio mundi est, tum quia primum habitacio fuit."

I like it a lot--particularly the mysterious, medieval impulse to center the world. It reads something like: "Jerusalem, the most magnificent of all cities, here our Lord gave up his life, here is the middle of the world, here is where the first people lived."

I'm cycling every day to thoughts that you guys have been leaving with me. From the prayers to the yoga diagram to the acorn (!), I'm very grateful for them. Thank you. And keep 'em coming! :) (cr419@cam)
