Those that know me will know I'm relatively new to photography. Yeah, I've been taking photos on cheap (not at the time) point and click cameras for years, and when I first had a phone with a camera built in - I was amaz...ok, they were rubbish but I had a camera with me ALL THE TIME and that was cool.

I digress. So - I'm a musician and college lecturer (in music) and for a couple of the shows a few years ago, I fancied myself as the official (only) photographer. I armed myself with one of the college's DSLRs and took on average about 5oo shots per show. We could only use about 10. I may show them to you sometime but between then and now I've had a better camera in my phone, I invested in a DSLR of my own (mainly to have a nice camera to document my daughter's first years in this world) and along the way I've taught myself what I could about photography (probably insulting every trained professional photographer).

So now, in the last few hours of 2013 I feel I'd like to put myself to the test as it were. Please understand - I'm not trying to prove anything, I'm not particularly looking for praise or criticism or 'likes' etc. That said, I will appreciate any comments you may have about any aspect of the project. I merely thought it would be a nice idea for me to challenge myself to taking a photo a day for the entire year of 2014 and then discovered that this is actually a thing.

I have no rules really - some photos will be taken with my iPhone, some with my DSLR and maybe some with some as yet unknown camera. I also don't know what I'm going to shoot - there could be some traditional type landscapes and portraits in there; probably some live performance shots; and of course there will inevitably be some of my daughter (it's ok - she's beautiful). By all means - if anyone has an idea of something to shoot, let me know. It could well be more interesting than what I would have shot that day.

So, I will try my best. Though I fully intend to upload interesting and maybe even poignant pictures (believe me - if people are actually going to look at these pictures, I want them to enjoy the experience), there may be occasions where something I find interesting may not actually be that good. Stick with me though - there may be a bigger picture or you may just think I'm rubbish on that day but that's the essence of art, isn't it?

I can be forgetful and even though my phone will remind me (twice), I may miss a day or two. I will make it up though and endeavour to upload two the following day.

Enough rambling - please enjoy and please let me know your thoughts (whether good or bad - how else do we know how to improve?)

Smile,
Rob
