Thistle Down

By Ethel

Greens

It is...my aim,
By special means.
To cook me up,
A kettle of greens.

Yes...a kettle of greens,
Like grandma did.
When she was old,
And I was a kid.

When dandelions and turnips,
Graced the table.
And to eat them down,
I wasn't able.

"Greens are for the blood",
Or so it was said.
They will keep you up lively,
And brighten your head.

Swiss-chard and red-beets,
Are the best of all greens.
They will color-up your inards,
And bubble-up your spleens.
