Rambling Through the Avenues of Time

Using Flight of The Conchords to describe my day in Toledo? Sure, why not.

We took a day trip to Toledo on my last full day in Madrid. Or should i say half-day trip. In the true Spanish spirit we started the day extremely late, and then left the house even later. After a mad dash to the train station, we missed the train to Toledo by minutes. Frustration is probably an understatement. So, the clock ticked on and on, as we made a second dash to the bus station and made the bus with 5 minutes to spare. After that, we were quite ready for the hour of relaxation the bus afforded us!

I really, really liked Toledo. Coming from Australia, it's always fascinating to see man-made things that are older than 200 years old. Toledo is full of winding streets, quaint balconies and turreted walls. The people shuffle along, never paying you much mind, while the tourist shop employees give you so much mind that you want to conk them over the head with something heavy.

We decided to forgo a map, instead letting our instincts drive us. We ended up seeing a decent chunk of the place, though not, unfortunately, the insides of many places. A reason to go back i suppose! Darkness fell in earnest around 7pm so we started to make our way back to the bus station, stopping on the way for hot chocolate and churros...as any self-respecting Spaniard should!
