Life blips n'blobs

Bring me Sunshine

Spring is finally here.

The daffs are out, and although they have been a popular blip, they are amazing plants.

They have a true evolutionary advantage, the stamen contains male and femal organs, and usually is protected by the corona, or trumpet, living a sheltered existence waiting for a happy insect to fertilise it. But it can also self pollinate if there are no buzzy bees around.

In addition, the daffodil is steeped in folklore and legend, and is thought to have anti-burn and anti-cancer properties, possibly why Marie Curie use it as an emblem.

And there's more.

The trumpet still has more surprises, as recently it was proposed as a completely new and unique plant organ.

The daffodil blows its own trumpet here.
