Snowboarding
Today we got up early to go snowboarding. I haven't been up to the mountain in several seasons due to being pregnant, having itty bitty babies, etc., etc. So today is/was the day......but sometimes things don't always happen as they were originally planned.
Our friends picked us up at our house in the am and we loaded all our gear into their Suburban and settled in for some nice conversation on the way up to the mountain. It was pouring down rain and as we gained elevation, it was still pouring down rain. Uh-oh. That's not a good sign.
Finally the rain started to turn into snow and bam, all of a sudden our tires lost all traction and we were headed straight for the guard rail (on the mountain side of the road thank God). But thanks to the quick and smart driving of our friend, he pulled us out of the slide. Wow. The snow was wet and slick.
By the time we reached the lodge, we were looking at a white out blizzard condition. The worst I have ever seen. We all wanted to board so bad but this was really bad. So we got out and thought that we'd run up to the lodge real quick. The wind was crazy strong and out of control. I grabbed my camera out of my cargo pocket and got a quick pic of my good girlfriend and myself. The snow was hitting us in the face. The wind was all over the place. We could barely open our eyes for the photo. But it was funny. It was so funny because we just couldn't believe that we were actually being snowed out of our 1st snowboarding day of the almost over season.
Up at the lodge, well, there wasn't anyone there. No wonder the woman at the mini mart laughed at us when we stopped to buy a parking pass. So there was really only one thing to do.....hit the lodge bar. And we got the comfy leather seats. You know the ones that are always full? Yeah well not today baby dolls. Not. To. Day. The guys ordered a beer and my friend and I ordered a....wait for it....wait. for. it......oh wait, I just forgot the name of it...oh yeah, a bloody mary. You know the hot spicy drink with the celery sticking out of the top? I've never ordered one before. And I liked it. Only for a long sit and sip as the flavors were really intense. But we did cheers our bloody mary's with a nice crisp 'clink'.
While thoroughly enjoying the leather comfy chairs, we decided that no, our day should not be over yet. So we sprinted back to the car through the white out blizzard and headed back down the mountain for a late lunch. We went to a favorite brew pub and again, got a comfy leather seat table. We were the only ones in ski gear but who's counting cool points anyways right?! So lunch turned into this afternoon of connecting and bonding. Laughing harder that we've laughed in what I think is safe to say, a while! Convo moving so fast with new stories. Even some killer eye tricks that would make any passerby-er want to stop and stare. It was just fun. And warm and cozy and freeing and memorable.
And I need to give a huge shout out and THANK YOU SO MUCH FROM THE DEPTHS OF MY SOUL to 'Party of 5' for hosting 'Sara's Sunshine and Daisy Day Care'. When I read that from your text earlier in the day, I about died laughing! Thank you for freeing us up for a Mommy & Daddy day........pick your day my friend because 'Abstract Eyes Amazing And Awesome Day Care' will be open any time for you! xoxo
