Stradun, Stari Grad, Dubrovnik

The icing on the (Royal Wedding) cake. I was finally rewarded after several visits, with a near-empty Stradun shot. Looking towards the Pile Gate, this view is usually obliterated with a cruise-liner full of tourists, identifiable by their MSC... sticker on their chest, sun-visor and a person up front, waving a brolly/flag/similar to guide them in the right direction.

But anyway. Friday 29 April 2011: When my grandchildren(!) ask me where I was for the wedding of William and Kate Catherine, I will say that I was sat on my bed, drinking a bottle of fizz, with Linds, in Dubrovnik! Pleased that the BBC World channel didn't try and do their own reporting with their own news-readers and instead linked up with Huwwwwww, Sophie and Fearne on BBC 1, we had the best seats in the house to see the whole event. I am well aware that by saying it was fabulous will get a few tsk tsks from any Republican blippers and readers out there, but I couldn't care less, it was a joy to watch! David Beckham was looking particularly handsome (did Victoria smile at all?!) and Prince Harry - the wind-up merchant that he is, along with Pippa, now referred to online as HR Hotness, both looked fantastic alongside the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. I did think that to have been invited to the ceremony alone would have been a bit of a swizz as far as weddings go though: No cameras, having to be there hours before, getting only a glimpse of the couple as they walk in and out and then to go home afterwards without so much as a chance to throw some rice/confetti or have a glass of fizz and speak to the happy couple, would have been a right larry let-down for me... Not to mention being relegated to one of the Royal minibuses, had I been a member of the RF!!!

And so having (not) wasted most of our last day in front of the box, we wandered into town in the warm afternoon sunshine, enjoyed an ice cream, took a boat ride, found the sister bar to Buza (further along the rocks) which was the perfect setting for a glass of chilled white wine, listening to chilled music, watching people pluck up the courage to jump into the chilled water below. Or not, as their bravery wimpered.

Final supper was at Sesame - another place with a good write-up and good it was too - especially since there were locals in there (always a good sign) - both of us choosing the lamb skewers and stir-fried vegetables, with a yummy glass of Croatian red, finished off with a blueberry sorbet (for Linds) and a chocolate mousse for me, which was served in a cocktail glass, sprinkled with sea-salt and olive oil, (correctly identified by me, when challenged by the waiter) to counteract the bitterness of the 90% chocolate. Thumbs up for the whole day!
