Pandas
Today's highlight, if not by virtue of being the only thing of note I did, was visiting the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Centre. Here the Chinese are doing their utmost to preserve a species which seems to be intent on becoming extinct, but helping pandas procreate and giving them a safe natural habitat. It's certainly an interesting place to visit, and if you really think it's worth £100 (and I don't), you can sit for a couple of minutes with a young panda on your lap. I went at feeding time, so most of the pandas had taken a break from their hectic sleeping regime (which is apparently to conserve energy for love-making) to eat.
