Homeward bound

After our unbelievably fantastic trip we made the long journey home and went on the Frankfurt S-Bahn to get an early morning coffee and to while away our 6 hour stop-over. This driver was watching the passengers getting on and off his train, but perhaps he should have been watching the ladies in the first carriage??!!

We left an African winter in Durban in bright sunshine and 28 degrees C; Frankfurt was also warm and sunny and we had our coffee outside the Old Opera house; the approach to landing in Edinburgh was very bumpy, the Forth was a mass of white horses and the first thing we did when we got into the house was to turn on the central heating - so much for Scottish summers!

We feel enormously fortunate to have had an opportunity to experience South Africa. We were treated like royalty, ate delicious food, and were bowled over by the beauty of the countryside, the vegetation, birds, wild animals, the warm breezes, the milky way in the southern hemisphere and the kindness and dignity of the people we came in contact with. We weren't oblivous to the challenges the country faces and could see some of the hardships many people had to cope with. I would be very happy to return one day and learn more about the country and its natural heritage.

If you'd like to see more photos I've uploaded some on to Flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/romawhaup/

It's nice to be back and see your blips.
