The calm after the storm

After a day in the house, mainly doing housework and keeping an eye on the activity in the nesting box where the (?)7 baby blue tits struggle to lift their heavy heads at the right moment to get some of the food brought in by their parents, I went for a walk up to the High Pond. The water was looking dark and it was very calm. There were lots of insects, but no swallows tonight. The Canada geese and their three goslings were grazing, the ducklings were much bigger and very noisy, there was a black headed gull swooping over the water, a buzzard overhead, a tufted duck which left just before I did and no sign of the dabchicks. I could stay there for ages!

Sadly, the storm has brought down several trees. I suppose they will become habitats for insects and the like, but at the moment it is just sad to see the destruction.
