to hear him sobbing, breaking
down on the phone
with him, for him, I
felt his loss, his guilt, his appalled
shock

the lurching dreadful drop
of so lost and
alone

I felt his sorrow

And then I flattened
it, put it back in its box
shut down and buried in work
