Surprise visit

It's been very hard to keep this secret! Today R and me flew down to Italy to surprise my best friend who is celebrating her 30th birthday. First I wasn't sure whether I would be able to go at all but I was rather happy that I booked our flights and was really looking forward to going. It was not always easy to keep my mouth shut and even deceive my best friend a little ... but the surprise worked out great ;)

Before we actually arrived in Arce that evening we went through quite an ordeal with Sixt - the car rental company at the airport in Rome which almost left us stranded at the airport. Due to some unfriendly personnel and some odd policies (which only seem to apply to car rental companies in Italy) we couldn't get a car. We tried to talk to them but they refused to comprise and would rather loose a paying customer. After some incredibly frustrating moments we decided to approach another car rental company who kindly offered us a compromise and were happy to give us a car.

Once we picked up the car we headed further South to meet a mutual friend who had helped organize the surprise dinner. It was great seeing the total disbelief and surprise on my friend's face when we entered the restaurant. Her boyfriend had taken her out on what she believed was a dinner for two on the night before her birthday.

Needless to say the evening turned out to be one of those great times with a laughter, great company and delicious Italian food! it kind of made us forget about the stress that R and me had gone through only a few hours before.
