Courtown Harbour Coastguards

A few days ago I uploaded a blip of the old forge in Aughrim Village and I was surprised at the reaction. Apart from BS here in Ireland, nobody seems to have seen this type of building anywhere else, so here we go again.

This one, again with the characteristic horseshoe shaped door, is now a store for the Coastguards down at Courtown Harbour. Again, it is situated, like the Aughrim Forge, right beside a river. Many such buildings are located close to running water and sometimes used the power of the river to drive paddle wheels which in turn powered machinery within the forge. Even if they didn't utilise the power at least they had an ample supply of water for rapid cooling, quenching and annealing of red hot metals.
