After yesterday's visit to historic Conwy castle we called in at Boddelwyddan Castle, an imposing Victorian pile dressed up to look every inch the medieval castle, complete with towers.

The house is an outpost of the National Portrait Gallery and houses some important painting contemporary with the house itself.

Work is starting on renovating the formal gardens though to be honest I liked them in their slightly over grown and down at heel state.

There were a number of groups of Morris dancers, the majority were women, at the castle today.
