Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Picnic on the Beach

I think the entire 31 years we have attended camp, Thursday has always been "Picnic on the Beach" day for the evening meal. This year the afternoon was absolutely lovely because the sun had broke through the clouds and it was neither too hot nor too cold.

Right before the dinner prayer, the chef described what we'd be eating. The burger buns were made from scratch and the burger patties were made from delicious beef and garnished with just the right amount of spice. We gathered at a picnic table with our friends Bob & Cheri and their adult daughter Jessica and her little boy, Zack. Grandpa Fun brought a high chair from the dining hall for Tristan. So we had the perfect dining experience for this picnic.

After the evening meal, our OTS (opportunity to serve) team had the privilege of cleaning up. So Grandpa Fun was caught by the camera carrying some of the bigger kitchen pans up the fairway to the kitchen. Because we had a little child with us, only one of us had to report for OTS duty. So I watched Tristan at the playground; considerably easier than doing dishes! ;-)

All the kids had a great morning in their classes. Yesterday they made tie-dye and today those sheets of colorful material were wrapped as sweat-bands around the forehead of each child. We also photographed Tristan still trying to get the words and hand motions of the "Butterfly Song" that the kids get to sing every morning and evening.

That's Thursday from Family Camp on Catalina Island
off the coast of So. California.
