Dunwich Heath

One really should do ones homework - Dartford Warbler - A skulking secretive bird of warm heaths and sunny slopes, the Dartford Warbler is often hard to see clearly as it flicks from one bush to another and slips from sight. But in warm, still weather it may perch in full view, when it is easy to recognize.

So yesterday we chose to go to Dunwich Heath and seek out a Dartford Warbler - it was quite a windy day with the forecast for the wind to increase during the day, so needless to say no Dartford Warblers. Well actually Mrs L heard what was probably one and I caught a fleeting glimpse of what was probably one - but neither were good enough to claim the tick.

The above photo was taken during our evening session. We'd been there in the morning - went to next door Minsmere in the afternoon and returned in the evening. Not great birding at Minsmere either, but we'll be back - in warm still weather, next time though.

RCB's offering for today is a Male Stonechat, the man at the information desk said find the Stonechats and you'll find the Dartford Warblers - hey ho!
