Big tomatoes

We managed to head out earlier today, and arrived at the gardens we like to go to north of Lavaur at 10.30.... just in time for the rain to start. Quick change of plan found us in the Museum of Natural History in Gaillac which, though a very traditional museum with glass cases of stuffed animals and birds and pinned butterflies and insects, was nonetheless fascinating. Particularly entertaining was a photography exhibition by Dominique Laugé. Most photos were of exhibits in the museum, with a few random flowers and people thrown in. The photos were printed on that soft bobbly hand-made style of art paper (technical term) with the rough edges of the sheets left showing. Very effective and very hard to see some of them as photos, so painterly were they.

Lunch in a local restaurant (very fine food and charming, if slightly forgetful service) was only marred by some daft behaviour from Conor (and I don't mean daft in a cute way). A long sleep for him on the way home seems to have cured that, and we've made a mental note that movie nights that finish in the early hours are not something our kids are quite ready for.

Now we are on the slow slide into dinner, along with experiments in copying a delicious cocktail we had at lunch (Noilly Prat, vanilla sugar syrup and amaretto). Here's a bunch of fat tomatoes. I'm sure I should have pulled the middle one off to give the other two space to grow without bumping into each other, but they seem to be coping regardless.

There are many backblips if you're interested:
