More work with the magic floating hat today.

Busy day all round really - visited a 'wildflower meadow' in the morning, which turned out to be a very weedy field. Once we struggled through the waist high thistles and nettles, there were enough butterflies, bees and hoverflies to keep everyone happy, and a convenient first field trip for 'School of Mam'. Convenient mainly because our friend who was staying with us knows pretty much everything about the natural world. Very handy for those "what flower is that one?" "can I stroke a bee?" questions.

Then off to Dunfermline to meet a friend over from Gullane with a couple of Katherine's friends - we had a good catch up over a slightly rained on picnic. There was some horrible news from Gullane yesterday with a little boy run over by a truck. He was the same age as Conor, and went to playgroup with him when they were little. I imagine any parent hearing about it will feel that familiar pit of dread in their stomach, and maybe give their kids an extra hug before bed. No idea how you even begin to arrive at a way of carrying on if that happens. I'm sure the local school will be a rather sombre place when they go back tomorrow.

With Katherine high from candy floss and friends, we headed home for the habitual Doctor Who DVD before bed routine.
