Cool Summer Creek
Every day I ride my bike past this spot. Often I marvel at how calm it is. This little oasis a few hundred yards from the DART Red Light Rail Line and within sight of Central Freeway. Everybody is rushing to get to work or school or back home. But here all is calm. Or at least it feels that way along the White Rock Lake Hike and Bike Trail. Even at the height of our drought, water flows. Peaceful and serene. Don’t look too close or you will see plastic bottles caught in the dam or rags that high water flows stuck in the tree limbs. Someday soon, when the rains start again, this creek will rage and overflow the trail leaving slippery silt and mud. I will try to remember to take a shot at such a time. But today, is peaceful. It was warm but not oppressively so. Maybe in a couple weeks, fall will truly begin and the harshness of summer will be past. Maybe. Just maybe.
