Day Seven: First Day in Yellowstone!
Today we did a lot of driving. Yellowstone is a pretty big park! Drove up through West Thumb up to Old Faithful, down to Black Sand Basin to see this hot spring and some cool geysers, up to Mammoth Hot Springs and then back around down to Flagg Ranch! Yellowstone is known for its array of geysers. Amazingly, before visiting I really knew nothing about Yellowstone other than the fact that it was America's first national park and that there was lots of wildlife (bears, grey wolves, elk, etc.). But, the cool thing about it is that it's in the middle of a supervolcano! That is why all the geysers exist in the first place. Pretty neat! The different colors seen here are due to various bacteria living in the hot spring.
We did see our first grizzly bear of the trip today! Stopped in a wildlife jam to see what everyone was looking at, and there was a large grizzly rummaging for grubs across a stream a ways. Very exciting :)
