A glut of pears.
This pear tree stands in the lawn. I think it is quite old, I am told it was in many years before we arrived in 1998. The fruits are quite small, they are Hazel pears, but prolific and delicious. The blackbirds love them and in the sunshine so do the butterflies, (sadly no sunshine!). I was inspecting them today as I always make a batch of pear chutney, simply because 'they are there'. I have to say they are quite fiddly being small. I also poach them in syrup and freeze them in small quantities, a tip given me by an elderly resident. The wind is getting stronger so there will be even more on the ground tomorrow.
