Today's the day .......................... to cancel the race

It was such a shame!

Notices announcing that the roads would be closed off between 10.00 and 11.00 today because of the Tour of Britain Cycle Race meant that the people of Kendal turned out in force to cheer the cyclists on their way. This was Stage 2 of the Race and the route was from Kendal to Blackpool via Greyrigg and Sedbergh - slightly odd because they are to the north of Kendal?!

Of course, the weather forecast today for this area was for 70 mph winds and rain - likely to cause structural damage to trees etc. So the organisers had no choice but to cancel this stage altogether.

We were lucky though - because the cyclists, who presumably were all dressed up with nowhere to go - did a lap of honour round the town. So at least all the school kids had a chance to wave their specially made flags - and I got a chance to bring you a cycling blip ............................
