Phainopepla
Phainopepla Nitans. Found him on the golf course in the late afternoon. This is a male because his white wing patches showed when he flew away. Note the red eye and ragged crest as noted by Sibley. His long tail is out of perspective in this view because he is sitting at an angle.
On the same outing on our evening tour in the golf cart, we saw another interesting bird that we cannot positively identify. He is shown here. If you can ID this stranger please leave a comment.
