In Between Days

Tarzan

Spent a drizzly hour looking around the shops in Ambelside. During this time L built up a few nerves about our Go Ape experience. I must admit that, as we drove up to Grizedale Forest for our 12:30 start time, I too began to feel a little aprehensive.

It was brilliant. It's like a tree top assault course with zip wires, Tarzan swings, rope bridges etc. After a training session on how to use the equipment and remain hooked to something all of the time you are basically left to your own devices. It took a couple of hours to complete. Some bits were scary got the old adrenaline pumping. The worst one was the last Tarzan swing where you basically hook on to the limp wire and jump from a ridiculous height towards the floor. L couldn't make this one initially and after what seemed like 3 hours (OK, maybe 5 minutes), the couple waiting behind us went first and showed us how it was done. I distinctly remember myself saying 1,2,3....no! and remaining firmly rooted to the spot. We both eventually did it. Afterwards we had a nice large Latte in the Forest café. The rain was pretty much not a problem until we walked back to the car. At this point the heavens opened big tme and we both got a proper soaking. Great fun.

In the evening we ate in a really nice vegetarian restaurant called Fellinis. The food was amazing and I had the rare experience of eating out and not having to eat the token veggie dish of lasagne or stroganoff. We then went to the cinema to see Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. I enjoyed it but both of us feel we need to see it again!
