I only had a wee bit of time to wander along the river today, but happily, the cormorant popped up.
I've noticed quite a few blips of cormorants lately...I particularly liked ~kater's flotilla. In her comments, ~musing notes that they sit almost under water when swimming. I think that it's because they don't have a preen gland (being a very primitive bird) so they can't coat their feathers with oil and so get waterlogged. This is also why they spend so much time hanging their wings out to dry.
I had no idea that Meles would also do a cormorant blip today. Curses! I've been gazumped! Her reflections are so much better too :(
