A Family B&B in Slovenia

We stayed in this B&B in Bled for the past four nights. Miha, the owner, grew up in the house on the right, which his grandmother moved into before WW II. It was a farmhouse back then, and times were not easy, especially after the war. The barn was the building in the left background, and they had only a few animals. To earn extra money they started taking in boarders.

Things gradually improved, especially after Slovenia became independent in 1991. The building on the left (which now houses all the rooms) was built in 1998. The hay rack on the left, with the horizontal rails, was moved from outside Bled. Its posts are made of wood--most of the hundreds of hay racks remaining in the countryside have concrete posts. Originally all the hay was hung on them for the winter, but they are now used less and less. (The modern building in the right background is a huge, ugly modern hotel--a different sort of "progress" in Bled.)

Miha's brother runs the hotel opposite (a recent building behind me taking this panorama), and recounted most of his family's history. We had a simply wonderful stay.

Beyond the story, I was temped to post this for the comparison with our B&B in France three weeks ago.
