The Pumpkin Patch

I was on my way home from driving my doctor at 3:45 p.m. Getting home early. It was 75 and sunny...a peach of a day. I dialed my wife Lisa, and had her "this close" to going out in the kayaks with me. "How do I get in the kayak without getting wet?" "I'll wade in, hold the boat steady, and you get in right from the dock." She agreed to go.

We got to the lake...she lowered herself in...I pulled her away from the dock...and...ROLLED HER OVER INTO THE CHILLY WATER!!!! SHE WAS HOPPING MAD!! Actually...right after she agreed to go...my daughter called. "We're going out to the orchard, and we want you to come take some pictures of the baby." "Honey...I just talked your mother into going kayaking." "I bet if I call her...she'll be glad to go to the orchard." We went to the orchard.

The baby...who is 3 weeks short of his first birthday...didn't quite know what to make of the pumpkins. When he was sitting among them...he would lean over to try to take a bite. Maybe he was upset that they cost 39 cents a pound. Highway robbery. The apples went much better. He can bite into those, and get a little chunk. We had fun seeing some goats, a horsie, some chickens, and some ducks. Mom and dad both took him down the slide. Cider and doughnuts finished up the outing in a sweet way.

I still hope to get my wife out in the kayak. If she reads the rolling over bit...she probably won't go. I wouldn't really do that, but I am worried about her rolling it. Let's hope it doesn't happen, and her old Girl Scout canoe lessons take over. HA!
