Small thumb, big bandage
Poor boy :-(
Son Two was running through the house whilst TPD was working on the car and Son One and I were just limbering up for a game of footie. Both the front door and the back door were open and it was blowing a gale. Back door slammed shut on his thumb :-(
There was much blood. Scooped him up and drove off to A&E, where he very sweetly showed his bloody thumb to the lady on reception and said "Ow! Door!" when she asked what had happened. Waited a bit to see the triage nurse, who said crush injuries had to be x-rayed. She also said that teh world, his wife and his dog turn up every Sunday afternoon because they think it'll be quiet. Consequently it's one of their busiest times of the week, so we were in for Much Waiting. Joy.
Waited for x-ray. TPD took him in. We heard shouting. A lot of shouting. I said to Son One "Don't think Pea thinks much of sitting still, do you?". Funnily enough he came out sporting an "I sat still for my x-ray" sticker. As TPD said, they had to give him that one because they didn't have an "I yelled a lot because Daddy had to pin me down and ended up getting his hand x-rayed too" sticker..
Back to the waiting room. I said I'd take Son One home so he could finish his homework, as we were likely to be at least another hour. We got home, and 2 minutes later TPD called to say they'd finished, typical, so back we went.
He has a lovely big bandage, which was already getting grubby by the time I picked them up. It's not broken though fortunately, and they're 99.9% certain there's no damage to the nail bed (if there had been it would have been an op under general, so I'm pretty glad about that one). He's also been given a new bear to add to his collection. Hopefully 2 are enough for this year...
PS - the photo is woeful. The radiographer had my sympathies!
